Description
Everest Base Camp trekking will take you into the beautiful north-eastern Khumbu region of Nepal, close to the border of Tibet. The very first expedition to climb Mount Everest in 1953, used this trekking route which is the classic route still popular today. Additionally, this region is home to the world-famous Sherpas.
The rugged landscape is broken by deep gorges and glacial valleys with breathtaking views of not only Mt. Everest (Sagarmatha – as it is known in Nepalese) but also Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Pumari, Thamserku, Amadablam, etc. You will trek through the Sagarmatha National Park (1148 sq km) and enjoy a wide variety of vegetation and varying from pine, hemlock, fir, juniper, birch, rhododendrons and shrubs to alpine plants to bare rock and snow. You may see Himalayan tahr, ghoral, serow and musk deer. Common birds are the impeyan, pheasant, blood pheasant, red-billed cough and the yellow-billed cough. Elevation ranges from 2000 – 5545 m.
Trekking in this region usually begins from either Jiri or Lukla, but Mountain Ram Adventures can customize itineraries, at the client's request, to begin in other areas such as Bhandar, Sallery or Phaplu. From Kathmandu, Jiri can be accessed by bus (10 hours) or private vehicle (7 hours). Lukla is just a short 30-minute flight from Kathmandu.
